Airlines Invest in DIY to Streamline Services | |
The days of queueing to drop off your suitcase at the airport could soon be over as airlines step up attempts to automate the check-in process. While self check-in has been around for years, airlines are now investing in more do-it-yourself options that could enable travellers to arrive at the airport with their bags already tagged and ready to drop off with no assistance from staff. Once a traveller checks in online, they would be able to hold their smartphone over the electronic bag tag, which would update with a barcode containing their flight details. This tag could then be quickly scanned at the self-service bag drop before the passenger heads through security.

For example, we participate in a number of industry forums, which allows us to learn from the experiences of other airlines and share best practices. This proactive approach ensures that we’re providing the safest travel possible and giving our customers and crew absolute peace of mind while in the air. Continue Reading>> |

There’s one way you can make the process a bit easier: apply now. Everyone and their mother applies for passports through the summer months when travel is at its peak, so the best time of year to apply is the fall, because you’ll be more likely to get it back on time. Department of State General Information Officer Jeffrey Smith told Road Warrior Voices: According to the Department of State website, average processing time for a passport is four to six weeks, but that doesn’t mean there wont be delays — according to Peter Greenberg, some people even have to wait 16 weeks. If you’re in a hurry you can expedite yours and plan to get it back in three weeks, or just eight days if you do so at an agency. Though, if you’re really a procrastinator, there are some tricks to get your passport back in as little as a day.
